Embedded Insurance 101

Understanding Root's embedded insurance offerings

What is Embedded Insurance with Root?

Embedded Insurance is a product offering by Root that allows you to easily integrate auto insurance quoting, checkout & servicing within your existing application with less work.

How can I use it?

Although we offer Embedded Insurance as a single product, we've made two implementations available to customers: hosted and fully embedded. Your choice might depend on white labeling requirements or development bandwidth, however, the transition between both is seamless and available at any time. You can even use both at once!

Hosted

The hosted experience utilizes a partner’s current product as a way to collect all customer information required to generate a quote for personal auto insurance. After collecting quoting information and validating that it is sufficient for quoting, Root generates a bridge link for the customer. The bridge link then redirects the customer to a Root-hosted property to complete the quote customization (including adding/updating drivers and vehicle, make coverage selections, etc) and purchasing process. At the end, the customer is returned to the partner’s product. The Root-hosted property is a white-label solution with various branding customization options to highlight the partnership with Root and ensure that the transition from the partner's property to Root's property is seamless for the customer.

Advantages

  • Quicker to market
  • Lower engineering effort
  • Less insurance domain knowledge required

When to use

  • For a quick proof of concept to see if selling insurance to customers is a good market fit
  • Lack of insurance domain knowledge

Fully Embedded

The fully embedded experience uses our full suite of embedded APIs to bind a personal auto insurance policy within a partner’s product. Here a partner guides the customer through the quoting, legal documents, billing, and binding of a policy completely within their product; controlling everything1 from branding to user interaction.

Advantages

  • Customer never has to leave the partner's product
  • An overall better experience with a customer who already trusts the partner's brand/product

When to use

  • To provide the best insurance buying experience for customers

Footnotes:

  1. There is a required legal affirmation statement customers must be presented prior to binding a policy.
