policyEffectiveDate must be an RFC 3339 date-time. Root adjusts this timestamp to the policy state/market timezone and uses the resulting local calendar date as the requested policy effective date.
Example
For an Ohio quote, Root evaluates policyEffectiveDate in Eastern Time.
2026-06-01T01:00:00Z converts to May 31 in Eastern Time, so Root will treat the requested effective date as 2026-05-31.
To request June 1 for an Ohio quote, send a timestamp that falls on June 1 in Eastern Time, such as 2026-06-01T00:00:00-04:00.
Recommendation
To avoid unintended date shifts, include an explicit timezone offset and ensure the timestamp falls on the intended calendar date in the policy state’s timezone.
